San Filippo

About San Filippo

San Filippo (Filippo Romulus Neri 1515 - 1595) was and is an example for us. He was an Italian priest who founded the Congregation oft he Oratory, a community dedicated to pastoral care and charitable work. His spiritual mission emphasized personal holiness and direct service to others. Neri’s early years in Florence and his subsequent move to Rome in 1533 marked the beginning of his commitment to missionary work. His lived example of personal holiness attracted many followers, leading to the founding of the Congregation of the Oratory. The Oratory became a center of spiritual renewal and pastoral innovation, focusing on prayer, music and religious instruction with personal reflection. As a spiritual leader, he distinguished himself through his humility, his sense of humor, his piety, and his ability to inspire deep devotion. Until today Philip Neri remains an important figure in church tradition. His feast day is celebrated on May 26.
